Del Shannon
Gong Magazine recently asked me to write an article for the Japanese MMA scene about recent scientific clinic with coach UWF Wrestling Mr. Billy Robinson. As readers of this blog will recognize, I will just produced from the blog entry made here before.

Anyway, I thought I got to readers of English here. Enjoy!

In my role as the "Johnny Appleseed" Catch Wrestling here in the United States, I had the great fortunate to directly pick the brains of Karl Gotch, Yoshiaki Fujiwara, Dick Cardinal, Billy Wicks, Frank Cain, Josh Barnett, and dozens of others. The morning of March 28 2007 I went to LAX and took one of the greatest masters of Catch Wrestling in modern times, Billy Robinson! Like Karl Gotch, Robinson learned in the Snake Pit in Wigan England and has a reputation as one of the world's most renowned masters of Catch as catch can wrestling. Bill is 12 years younger than Karl and despite her knees wrong, he is still eager to teach. More recently he has been teaching crafts in Mr. Miyata's UWF Snakepit "in Japan. Before Bill coach was fighting for UWFi, where he trained perhaps his most successful pupil, Kazushi Sakuraba.

My first day with Mr. Robinson was actually a lot of fun. After spending the day with Bill talking about wrestling, history, and so we got to the wrestling room and put on shoes wrestling around 6:30 pm. We had about 10 people present and Billy ran us through conditioning exercises such as Hindu squats, bar muscle-ups, pulling (aka fists), and more. This was a very special clinic and who were present, standing at MMA-Josh Barnett and his trainer (and once heavyweight champion of Shooto light), Erik Paulson CSW. Then he began to work in a variety of kills he had never seen anywhere before. These demolitions were very efficient, and most of them very painful.

Bill then we circle around and shared the history and philosophy of Catch-as-catch-can. Once more things I'd never seen anywhere before. Mr. Robinson has a very interesting perspective on the evolution of mixed martial arts that are rarely heard in the United States. He talked about his days as youth struggling Wigan at the Snake Pit for his grandfather's bare-knuckle boxing champion, on the history of catches Wrestling, the Lancashire true meaning of "Catch-As-Catch-Can", and to control the exploits of King Henry VIII of England (those who are fans of the Showtime series The Tudors can all appreciate this.)

He then worked in a variety of presentations (hammerlocks, inward double wrist lock, etc.). The clinic was scheduled only until 10 pm, but we went up to about 11 Billy share with us. Then we went to the beer bar (until about 1 am).

During the second night of the visit of Mr. Robinson who had several participants Japanese competitors including excellent Megumi Fujii and Hiroyuki Abe. Billy covered more maneuvers that have rarely seen. It was a novel against the double wrist lock I imagine that both Renzo Gracie and Royler wished he had known before they face Kazushi Sakuraba.

After the night of the class struggle, all went Jerry's Famous Deli in Marina Del Ray for some good food, drinks and conversation. Josh Barnett talks a little about their views on the current business Martial Arts Mixed, given the purchase of Pride FC by the Fertitta brothers and their invitation to a party at the Playboy mansion. It was another great day.

Every Saturday the morning was for a full day of instruction, from 9am. Billy ran us through some light conditioning exercises and began on the concept of struggle "walks". I really felt that most modern grapplers do not understand the case "pro" way to ride a body fight a body. Billy ran us through the ride back, the side walk, the walk on the ankle, and more! He showed how to set up properly can allow maneuver and maintain control no matter what your opponent tries to do.

Subsequently, the meters showed the front headlock and more demolition and communications. He also showed great technique to break an opponent's grip. Honestly information that we had much more than 7 hours on our video camera. If, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, then this clinical material should be worth billions!

I really beg you take a look at the free trial version and enjoy the games (especially those from Texas Instruments and Sakuraba are my favorite!). We will have a new full, hi-res "to the letter 'episode up every week you wait! About the Author:

Del Shannon - Greatest Hits

Del Shannon – Greatest Hits

$6.77

These 20 tracks include all the big early-’60s hits by this maverick artist, plus several obscure gems. Shannon was atypical of his era by virtue of age (26 when he had his first hit, “Runaway”), originality (he wrote most of his songs), aggression (unusually among white artists of the early ’60s, most of his stuff rocked), and temperament (his songs weave an alarming pattern of misery, paranoia, …

Damn Yankees (1955 Original Broadway Cast)

Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, who were protegés of Frank Loesser, composed and wrote lyrics for only two hit shows of their own–The Pajama Game was the other. (Ross died in 1955, shortly after the opening of Damn Yankees.) But what great shows they were, in sensibility and subject matter entrenched in their Eisenhower era, yet eminently revivable today–and as much more than period pieces. Damn …

Can-Can [VHS]

Can-Can [VHS]

$2.93

How to adapt a Broadway musical for the movies? Well, if you’ve got Frank Sinatra and Shirley MacLaine signed up, you throw out most of the original and make up something new–which is how Cole Porter’s Can-Can came to the screen. It had been a smash on Broadway, and on film Can-Can locked up the #2 box-office spot for 1960 (nestled between Ben-Hur and Psycho). From a modern standpoint, the movie’…

A low-rent horror flick from the early 1980s, Of Unknown Origin comes across like a grisly, live-action version of Tom and Jerry. Unable to trap or poison his foe, H…
