Mahler Symphony
Why Mahler "6" is called "tragic"? Mahler Symphony no given this name!?

This issue affects one of my earliest personal traumas. Much of my life has been asking how and the why of this terrible pantoclastic, including Finale poisonous. Mahler began work on it in 1903; Curiously, it was a happy time: life with Alma Schindler was harmonious, Ana Maria was born a year before and Gustav as usual, is dedicated to compose the summer, while the rest of the year was absorbed by the realization. From Maiernigg paradise, with forests and lakes, have been erased Photos and a Ken Russell film (the title could be "of Mahler's still alive" or so). And curiously, again, the tragic year real, the annus horribilis, was as follows: left tumultuously the direction of the Vienna State Opera, the baby died, and this time what came out was the acid sarcasm of the 7th. The Sixth 'Tragische was the quintessential expressionist symphony: just compare with Tragische by Schubert, Brahms or Ouverture tragic! The influence performed in Vienna 2nd school was enormous: just to name a work influenced by Berg Vier Orchesterstuecke. Does your ear that incredible chord painful opening of the Finals, and suspense, the deadly weather immediately after? And the percussion so widely adopted: herdenglocken, including hammers on the anvil … And that dissonance at the height of the tragic end, and that horrible feeling of walking into an obituary, in which all the bodies are our mistakes and irrevocable the prophecies of evil more to come. The continuous alternation major / minor, hoping that this time also M. save some optimism in the last movement or used the voice to sing a ray of light, the beauty of nature, and on the other hand, builds a terrible monument: "The way it is with great challenges," Adorno wrote. The triggered mass chains work hard and madly hammers again and again until the opening of climate is restored and a devastating final chord is played as a shot by guillotine and dies on the drums wildly over. Bernard Haitink used to say: "Listen to your sixth question: if you are unhappy, you feel better." That's what I tried to think, Boulez began when a couple of years in Milan with the Staatskapelle Berlin. But obsessive images of Finale I felt terrible despair and loneliness itself, which, Weltschmerz universal pain we all share, and the terror of death as our final destination.
