How many people with heart transplants are alive with the transplanted heart?
My husband is going up on the 19th anniversary of his heart transplant and has not had to be reused. I wonder how many people with heart transplants (non-retransplant) have over 18 years? I do not know how to find the answer anywhere. Not knowing how to ask the question of a search.
From what I can find on the web, using the term search 'statistics for heart transplantation, the survival rate at 10 years is around 50%. I have not found a statistical beyond 10 years, and figures from the U.S. and the UK look more or less the same (links below). Her husband's doctor will probably be able as giving a more accurate figure. I would say that their husbands transplant was a success. Here's to you both have many happy years together.
