Does a 1987 mariner 115hp outboard engine have sleeves in the cylinder from factory?
i have a 1987 mariner 115hp inline six that one cylinder is scared up real bad and wondering if it came with a sleeve from the factory or if i would have to bore it and install the sleeve.
if in fact it is a sleeved bore how do i get the sleeve out. i think it needs to be resleeved dont think oversize bore would help
Yes, your motor has a sleeved bore. No, you do not have to resleeve it to fix it. You can usually rebore the cylinder oversize (.020″, .030″, etc.) to accept an oversize piston. Exceptions include if your cylinder is scarred beyond the size of available pistons, or if other damage occurred within the cylinder. Oversize pistons are weighted to be compatible with standard pistons, so only the affected cylinder need be rebored. It is recommended that the remaining cylinders receive new rings, etc. to maintain even compression across the board…
